45 years ago today (1967), Muhammad Ali was convicted of draft evasion.  Checkout the video below.

Today in Sports History: Len Bias

On this day in 1986, Len Bias unexpectedly died, just two days after being the second overall selection in the first round by the Boston Celtics in the NBA draft.

As a side note, Brad Daugherty had been the top pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Jerry Sandusky Case

Today in Sports History: Secretariat

It's really a shame that I'll Have Another wont get the chance to complete the Triple Crown.  It was on this day in 1973 that Secretariat was able to do so.

Not that I'm a hige horse racing fan, but it would have been intriguing to see if it could have been done.

Sports Bucket List

The thing that has been on my mind lately, is my sports bucket list.  Here is what I want to do before I do:

1.  Shag fly balls in a Major League stadium and take some BP.  Would there be a better way to spend your life than to be able to walk out of the shadowy tunnel, leading from the clubhouse to the field, walk up the stairs of the dugout onto the soft, green grass, every single day?  I know there are negatives to being a ballplayer such as the travel.  Believe me, that would get to me, but I would love to be able to experience this moment just once in my life.


2.  Play goalie in an NHL arena.  Pretty much the same way I feel about shagging fly balls and taking BP.  I'm not saying I want to do this in a game, but just a shoot around.  Get on the pads, and let the pucks fly.

3.  Attend a major college football game.  At the top of my list for this is Alabama.  I know there are places such as Michigan and Notre Dame, but, and I mean no disrespect, but are those programs relevant at the moment?  At any rate, Bryant-Denny Stadium on a Saturday afternoon against an opponent, like say LSU.  Just to add to the experience, get Keith Jackson to broadcast one more game.  I'd find a way to watch it in the stadium while he was broadcasting it.

4.  Broadcast a baseball game.  In my past life, I was a sports play-by-play announcer.  This was for small town high school games.  Despite that, I did get to do some memorable things such as broadcast a state championship football game from the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.  I met athletes such as Mark McGwire, Brett Hull, and Wayne Gretzky.  My goal was to become a Major League Baseball announcer.  While I did some high school baseball games, I decided to leave radio for numerous reasons.  Nonetheless, I would love to broadcast at least one more baseball game.  It doesn't even have to be Major Leagues.  In fact, I almost would prefer a Minor League game...just for the love of it.

5.  Visit the Baseball Hall of Fame As a baseball geek, I couldn't think of a better place to spend an entire week, and that's exactly what I would do in order to have sufficient time to study every single inch in Cooperstown.
